Questions and Answers about Correspondence Study![]()
1. How is correspondence study similar to and different from classroom study?
As a correspondence student, you will use the same text and pursue the same objectives as classroom students. However, you have elected to study without the benefit of classroom instruction and therefore will work more independently. To compensate for missing the interaction in which you would normally participate in the classroom, as a correspondence student you will do more writing. In addition, you may interact with your fellow students and instructor on a regular basis through the internet.
2. What makes a correspondence student successful?
A correspondence student must be self-disciplined and practice good time management in order to complete the course. The amount of reading and writing may at first appear overwhelming, but dont panic! Determine your schedule for completing the course; then, as you receive each assignment, divide it into manageable chunks, make a schedule for completing the assignment, and stick to it.
Another key requirement is regular contact with the instructor. Keep me informed about your progress in the course. When you need information or explanation, please contact me.
3. How do I exchange materials with the instructor?
As an e-mail course, you have many options for handing in assignments. Your options include in person, through U.S. mail, personal delivery and, of course, e-mail. You can e-mail me at presnick@icc.edu
4. Can I wait to begin the work for the course?
While there is some flexibility, students who do not finish roughly half of the work of the course by midterm are not likely to pass. Taking the final exam is required!
5. Can I work ahead of the schedule you have given me?
Yes. The only requirement is that you work on one essay at a time and finish each assignment before moving on to the next.
