The expansion joints on the Illinois Central College roof were always a barrier to the maintenance department when ever we had to move filters, compressors or fan motors around to make repairs. After some thought I came up with a ramp design that would meet the needs of the maintenance department and would be a good project for the IBEW/NECA students to build. The ramps are made out of uni-strut, which will give the electricians the practical on the job welding experience they need. The flooring, part of the ramp, is made out of expanded metal from 14th Street Hardware in Pekin and is best cut to size using the cutting torch. This project gives electricians the type of welding experience they need for the job.The finished product saves the maintenance department time and money on repairs to the roof top heating and ventilation equipment.
