AWS EVENTS & INFORMATION

American Welding society Peoria Chapter
October 2003 Meeting

On Wednesday Oct 15 the Peoria Section toured the facilities of Columbus Industries Inc. located at Fairview, Illinois. Columbus Industries has 25,000 square feet of shop space with 16 acres of outside storage and six 23 by 25 foot high shop doors. Columbus Industries is known for high quality fabrication, welding, cutting and machining products and services. Besides fabrication of structural supports, hand rails, fence, machine parts, cutting, punching and jigs and fixtures Columbus Industries has started to produce the Coot2 a heavy duty all terrain utility vehicle. Our members were given a demonstration of the Coot2 at the start of the tour, before it got dark outside.

Inside the facility we would shown the two robotic welders they own and given a demonstration of the water jet. The water jet will cut flat parts from metal, plastic, glass, ceramic and composites with a +/- .003 accuracy. The AWS letters were cut out that night to demonstrate how the machine works. Besides the regular AWS members we had several of the area high school students attend.
