| On Tuesday, October 17, 2000 the local chapter of the American Welding Society (AWS) held a joint meeting with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) at Bradley University's Morgan Hall to inform students and parents of the scholarship opportunities available from both organizations. | |

As stated in the AWS student scholarship handbook and application, "The district scholarship program is the broadest scholarship program, it assists students who seek vocational training, community college or a degreed educational program in welding or a related field of study." | |
